Yoga, Digestion, and Health
There is no question that digestion is an important factor in keeping healthy. The food we eat is is used to build tissue for our bodies and to provide the building blocks for your bodies own defenses. Our bodies are constantly being broken down, and through digestion, we provide ourselves with the energy and material to build ourselves back up.
When digestion is thrown off balance by either poor choices in food or illness, improperly digested material may form toxic substances poisoning your body. Common symptoms of poor or improper digestion include feeling lethargic and fatigued all the time. This is due to the build up of toxic substances which your body is constantly trying to expel. If left unchecked this condition can lead to serious disease.
First Things First
The first thing to do is to look at your diet before anything else!
Keep it Fresh
The most important thing is to eat food that is fresh and unprocessed. Fruits and vegetables are the obvious choices, but take a look at other things you can get fresh. Buy fresh fish, beans, corn. Processed foods contain so much chemicals and hormones that they are hardly beneficial to your system in any way. Fresh foods contain beneficial bacteria and enzymes that are absent from their processed counterparts.
Take a Meat Vacation
It may be wise to reduce the amount of meat you consume. Meat is harder on the digestive system than other foods. Think of your digestive system as a muscle. Especially as we get older we must ensure that we do not strain our systems constantly. Meat has high nutritional value, but keep in mind that it would be best to take a break to give your digestive system some rest.
Pay Attention and Learn
Pay attention to the entire process! The more you are aware of what you eat, how you eat, and how it affects you, you will naturally make better choices. Learn about diet and digestion. Let food be what heals you and keeps you healthy. I quit smoking by the same means, I just payed attention to what I was doing to my body every time I had one and I eventually quit. Same with food, think about how this will affect your body. In time you will really see the difference in your attitude of wanting to nourish your body instead of break it down.
YOGA!
Like any other system in your body, your digestive system may be supplemented with Yoga. Focus on the poses that affect this area.
These poses can be practiced at home, but for maximum efficiency please take the time and attend a Yoga Studio with a trained instructor to guide you properly. Yoga for Life!
